BANNER Team notes

–        START ME UP – The Rangers have registered 13 wins and 28 points in the first 17 games of the 2015-16 season. The Blueshirts’ 13 wins are the most recorded through the first 17 games of a season in franchise history, and their 28 points are tied for the most recorded in the first 17 games of a season in franchise history. New York also registered 28 points in its first 17 games of the 1971-72 season (12-1-4).

–        WINNING WAYS – The Blueshirts extended their point streak to a season-high 12 games (10-0-2), and they extended their winning streak to a season-high eight games. New York’s eight-game winning streak is tied for the third-longest winning streak in franchise history, and it is the sixth time the Blueshirts have posted a winning streak of at least eight games in length in franchise history. The Blueshirts have posted an eight-game winning streak for the second consecutive season (New York posted an eight-game winning streak from Dec. 8-27, 2014). It is the first time New York has posted an eight-game winning streak in at least two consecutive seasons since the team did so in three straight seasons from 1972-73 to 1974-75. The Rangers’ 12-game point streak is the ninth-longest point streak in franchise history, and it is the first time the Rangers have posted a point streak of at least 12 games since the 2007-08 season (13 game-point streak from Feb. 9 – Mar. 10, 2008; 10-0-3). In addition, the Rangers have registered a 10-0-1 record in their last 11 games and have earned at least one point in 15 of 17 contests in 2015-16 (13-2-2).

–        SHUTTING THE DOOR – The Blueshirts have allowed two goals or fewer in 10 of their last 12 games (16 goals allowed over the span; 15 goals allowed in regulation and the five-minute overtime period) and in 13 of 17 games this season. In addition, the Rangers have allowed two goals or fewer in regulation in 11 of the last 12 games. The Blueshirts have allowed one goal or fewer in eight of the last 11 contests. The Rangers lead the NHL in goals against per game (1.65) in 2015-16.

–        LEADING THE WAY – The Rangers have posted a .758 points percentage since Jan. 1, 2015 (46-13-5 record). Since Dec. 8, 2014, the Rangers have registered a 55-14-5 record in 74 games (115 points; .777 points percentage). New York has posted the best record in the NHL since Jan. 1, 2014 (91-36-13 in 140 games; .696 points percentage).

–        ROAD WARRIORS – The Rangers lead the NHL in road wins (58) and road points (121) since the start of the 2013-14 season. Dating back to last season, the Blueshirts have won 20 of their last 25 road games (20-3-2), including 15 of their last 18 road contests (15-2-1).

–        FIRST IN SCORE – The Rangers have tallied the first goal of the game in 12 of 17 contests in 2015-16, including each of the last four games and six of the last seven contests. The Rangers have posted a 10-1-1 record when registering the first goal of the game in 2015-16. In addition, New York has posted a 51-7-4 record in games which they have tallied the first goal since the start of last season. The Blueshirts have outscored their opponent, 21-9, in the first period in 2015-16. As of the conclusion of today’s game, the Rangers lead the NHL in first period goals and first period goal differential (plus-12) this season.

–        POWER SURGE – New York was 1-for-2 (2:38) on the power play in today’s contest. New York has registered a power play goal in each of the last two games (2-for-4; 50.0%), in four of the last five games (4-for-12; 33.3%), and in seven of the last 11 contests (7-for-25; 28.0%). Over the last 11 games (since Oct. 19 vs. San Jose), the Rangers rank fifth in the NHL on the power play. The Blueshirts have earned at least one point in each of the last 17 games in which they tallied a power play goal (14-0-3) and have posted a 12-0-1 record in the last 13 games in which they recorded a power play goal.

–        SEN-SATIONAL – The Rangers have won five of their last seven games against the Senators (5-2-0), dating back to Jan. 18, 2014. New York has won each of its last four road games against Ottawa, dating back to Jan. 18, 2014. In addition, the Blueshirts have posted an 11-3-1 record in their last 15 road games against the Senators, dating back to Dec. 1, 2007.

–        Henrik Lundqvist made 22 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped two of three shooters he faced in the shootout to earn his 10th win of the season, including his sixth consecutive win. Lundqvist has earned a point in nine consecutive appearances for the first time in his NHL career (7-0-2) (Note: he earned a point in 10 straight appearances in which he was credited with the decision in the game from Feb. 16 – Mar. 10, 2008 (8-0-2) and from Mar. 16 – Apr. 5, 2007 (8-0-2)). Lundqvist extended his personal winning streak to six games, which is tied for the third-longest personal winning streak of his NHL career. He has also posted a personal winning streak of six games or more in length four times in his NHL career. Over his personal six-game winning streak, Lundqvist has posted a 1.32 GAA, a .955 SV% (171 saves on 179 shots), and 1 SO. Lundqvist has now allowed two goals or fewer in nine consecutive road appearances (dating back to Mar. 31, 2015 at Winnipeg), marking the first time he has accomplished the feat in his NHL career. In 2015-16, Lundqvist has played 130:27 in situations when the Rangers have either been tied or held a one-goal lead at any point in the third period. In those situations, Lundqvist has posted a 0.45 GAA and a .986 SV% (73 saves on 74 shots). As of the conclusion of today’s game, Lundqvist leads the NHL in saves (427), is tied for the NHL lead in wins (10), and ranks second in the NHL in GAA (1.69) and SV% (.947). Lundqvist’s 10 wins are the most he has earned in his first 14 appearances of one season in his career. Lundqvist has been named one of the game’s Three Stars in 11 of the 14 contests he has played in 2015-16, including 11 of his last 13 appearances and nine of his last 10 appearances. He has been named the game’s First Star seven times and the game’s Third Star four times. In addition, he has been named the game’s First Star in seven of the 10 games he has won this season.

–        Dan Boyle tallied the game-deciding goal in the shootout, recorded two shots on goal, was credited with two hits, and registered two blocked shots in 16:08 of ice time. He tallied the game-deciding goal in a shootout for the first time since Mar. 20, 2013 vs. Edmonton, when he was a member of the San Jose Sharks, and the goal was the third game-deciding goal of his career. The Rangers have posted a 56-16-7 record when Boyle has been in the lineup since he joined the team prior to the start of last season.

–        Chris Kreider tallied a power play goal, recorded two shots on goal, and was credited with two blocked shots in the contest. Kreider has tallied a point in each of the last two games (one goal, one assist) and has registered four points (two goals, two assists) in the last four contests. In addition, he has notched seven points (three goals, four assists) in the last 11 games.

BANNER BLUESHIRT BREAKDOWN

–        Kevin Hayes recorded an assist and registered three shots on goal in the contest. Hayes has notched a point in each of the last two games (one goal, one assist), has recorded six points (three goals, three assists) in the last six games, and has registered nine points (four goals, five assists) in the last 10 games. Hayes has notched a point in eight of the last 10 games and in 11 of 17 games this season. Hayes leads the Rangers in games with a point in 2015-16. In addition, 31 of Hayes’ 35 career NHL assists have been primary assists, and he leads the Blueshirts in primary assists since 2014-15. He is tied for the team lead in shots on goal (40) and is tied for second on the Rangers in points (12) and primary assists (six) this season.

–        Keith Yandle notched an assist and recorded three shots on goal in 17:11 of ice time. Yandle has recorded an assist/point in three of the last four games (three assists) and in four of the last six games (four assists), and he has registered seven points (one goal, six assists) in the last 11 games. Yandle leads the Rangers in assists (nine) and is tied for the team lead in power play assists (three) and power play points (four) in 2015-16. In addition, Yandle leads NHL defensemen in power play assists (120) since the start of the 2008-09 season, and he ranks second in the NHL – and leads NHL defensemen – in power play assists since the start of the 2013-14 season (58).

–        Mats Zuccarello recorded a goal in the shootout, led all skaters and tied a single-game career-high with six hits, and registered three shots on goal while leading all Rangers forwards with 20:37 of ice time. Zuccarello is the Rangers’ all-time leader in shootout goals (13) and shootout attempts (28). In addition, among Rangers who have taken at least five shootout shots since the shootout was implemented prior to the 2005-06 season, Zuccarello ranks third in shootout shooting percentage (46.4).

–        Jarret Stoll won all seven faceoffs he took and registered one hit in the contest. Stoll is the first Ranger to take at least seven faceoffs and win all of them in one road game since at least the 1997-98 season.

–        Derick Brassard recorded two shots on goal and was credited with one hit in 19:37 of ice time while skating in his 500th career NHL game.

–        Dominic Moore won three of six faceoffs (50.0%), recorded one hit, and registered one shot on goal in 14:40 of ice time while skating in his 700th career NHL game. Moore has posted a faceoff win percentage of 50.0% or better in nine of 15 games in which he has played this season.

–        Alain Vigneault coached his 181st regular season game with the Rangers in today’s contest, passing Fred Shero for sole possession of 12th place on the franchise’s all-time games coached list. Vigneault’s team has posted a 242-111-40 record in 393 games since the start of the 2010-11 season. Vigneault has earned more wins (111) through 181 regular season games as the Rangers head coach than any other head coach in franchise history. He leads all Rangers head coaches in points percentage (min. 100 games coached – .655; 111-55-15) in franchise history.
