BANNER Team notes

–        PERFECT 10 – The Rangers have registered 10 wins and 22 points in the first 14 games of the 2015-16 season. The Blueshirts’ 22 points are tied for the most they have recorded in the first 14 games of a season in franchise history, and their 10 wins are tied for the second-most they have recorded in the first 14 games of a season in franchise history. New York has started a season with at least 10 wins in its first 14 games three times: 1990-91 (11), 2008-09 (10), and 2015-16 (10). In addition, the Rangers have started a season with 22 points in their first 14 games three times: 1971-72 (9-1-4), 1990-91 (11-3-0), and 2015-16 (10-2-2).

–        WINNING WAYS – The Blueshirts extended their point streak to a season-high nine games (7-0-2), and they extended their winning streak to a season-high five games. In addition, the Rangers have posted a 7-0-1 record in their last eight games. New York has earned at least one point in 12 of 14 contests thus far in 2015-16 (10-2-2).

–        BACK-TO-BACK – New York has posted a 4-0-0 record in the second game of back-to-back sets in 2015-16. The Rangers have posted a 14-1-1 record in the second contest of their last 16 back-to-back sets. In addition, the Blueshirts have posted a .758 points percentage (23-7-1 record) in the second game of back-to-back sets since the start of the 2013-14 season and a .717 points percentage (48-18-3 record) in the second game of back-to-back sets since the start of the 2010-11 season.

–        ROAD WARRIORS – The Rangers lead the NHL in road wins (57) and road points (119) since the start of the 2013-14 season. Dating back to last season, the Blueshirts have won 14 of their last 17 road contests (14-2-1) and have earned at least one point in 21 of their last 24 road games (19-3-2).

–        SHUTTING THE DOOR – The Blueshirts have allowed two goals or fewer in eight of their last nine games (12 goals allowed over the span; 11 goals allowed in regulation and the five-minute overtime period). In addition, the Rangers have allowed one goal or fewer in six of the last eight contests and in each of the last two games. The Rangers have allowed two goals or fewer in regulation in each of the last nine games. The Rangers have allowed two goals or fewer in 11 of 14 games in 2015-16 and lead the NHL in goals against per game (1.71) this season. The Blueshirts have allowed two or fewer goals in all 10 of their wins this season and have posted a 10-0-1 record in games which they have allowed two goals or fewer in 2015-16.

–        SAVING THE DAY – Over the last 10 games (dating back to Oct. 15 at Montreal), Henrik Lundqvist and Antti Raanta have combined to post a .958 SV% (299 saves on 312 shots). In 2015-16, Rangers goaltenders have posted a league-best .951 SV% (424 saves on 446 shots).

–        FIRST IN SCORE – The Rangers have tallied the first goal of the game in nine of 14 contests in 2015-16. The Rangers have posted a 7-1-1 record when registering the first goal of the game in 2015-16. In addition, New York has posted a 48-7-4 record in games which they have tallied the first goal since the start of last season.

–        FINISHING THE JOB – The Rangers have posted a 158-1-9 record in their last 168 regular season games when leading after two periods, dating back to Feb. 6, 2010 vs. New Jersey. New York has also posted a 63-0-3 record in its last 66 regular season games when leading after two periods, dating back to Nov. 30, 2013 vs. Vancouver. In addition, the Blueshirts have posted a 44-0-1 record in 45 regular season contests in which they have held a lead after two periods since the start of the 2014-15 season.

–        FOUR SCORE – The Blueshirts have registered at least four goals in three of their last five games, in five of their last eight contests, and in seven of 14 contests this season. The Rangers have posted a 103-1-1 record in the last 105 regular season games in which they have registered at least four goals, dating back to Oct. 31, 2011 vs. San Jose. In addition, the Rangers have posted a 124-1-2 record in the last 127 regular season games in which they have notched four or more goals, dating back to Nov. 14, 2010 vs. Edmonton.

–        MAKING NOISE ON THE WESTERN FRONT – Since the start of the 2014-15 season, the Rangers have posted a 24-6-5 record in 35 games against Western Conference opponents, including a 15-2-1 record against teams in the Pacific Division. This season, the Blueshirts have posted a 6-1-0 record against Western Conference opponents, including a 4-0-0 record against teams in the Pacific Division. In addition, the Rangers have registered a 15-2-0 record in 17 road games against teams in the Western Conference, including an 8-0-0 record against teams in the Pacific Division, since the start of last season.

–        HOWLING FOR YOU – New York swept a season series against the Coyotes for the second consecutive season (4-0-0). The Blueshirts have won five consecutive games against the Coyotes, as well as eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams (8-1-0). The Blueshirts have recorded four or more goals in each of their last five contests against the Coyotes.

–        MOUNTAIN TIME – The Rangers have defeated the Avalanche and Coyotes on the road in back-to-back games for the second time since the Coyotes franchise relocated to Phoenix for the 1996-97 season. Prior to the current road trip, the only time New York had earned road wins in consecutive days against Colorado and Arizona was on Nov. 26-27, 1996, when the Rangers played their first all-time game against the Coyotes in Arizona and their second all-time game against the Avalanche in Colorado. The Rangers have defeated both the Avalanche and Coyotes on the same road trip three times (Nov. 26-27, 1996; Feb. 10-12, 2015; Nov. 6-7, 2015).

–        POWER SURGE – The Blueshirts were 1-for-4 (6:19) on the power play in the contest. New York has tallied a power play goal in each of the last two games (2-for-6; 33.3% over the span) and in five of its last eight games (5-for-19; 26.3%). The Blueshirts have posted a 10-0-1 record in the last 11 games in which they have registered a power play goal, and they have earned at least one point in each of the last 15 contests in which they have notched a power play goal (12-0-3).

–        Antti Raanta stopped 39 of 40 shots he faced to record his third win of the season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Raanta is the third goaltender in Rangers history to allow a total of two goals in his first three starts with the team (Lorne Chabot – two goals allowed in his first three starts in 1926-27; John Ross Roach – two goals allowed in his first three starts in 1928-29). Raanta is the first Rangers goaltender who has won each of his first three starts with the team since Dan Cloutier did so during the 1997-98 season (Jan. 3, 1998 – Jan. 12, 1998). Raanta’s 39 saves are the most he has made in one road game in his career and was one shy of his single-game career-high (he made 40 saves on Dec. 3, 2014 vs. St. Louis as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks). In addition, he earned his first road win since Apr. 4, 2014. Raanta has made 30 or more saves in eight games during his career, and he has posted a 7-0-1 record, along with a 1.36 GAA, a .962 SV%, and 2 SO in those contests. In three appearances this season, Raanta has posted a 3-0-0 record, along with a 0.67 GAA, a .976 SV% (83 saves on 85 shots), and 1 SO.

–        Chris Kreider registered two points (one goal, one assist) and posted a plus-two rating in the contest. Kreider extended his goal/point streak against the Coyotes to four games (five goals, one assist over the span). He has tallied five points (two goals, three assists) in the last eight games. Kreider has also registered four points (two goals, two assists) in four games against Pacific Division opponents in 2015-16. The Rangers have posted a 30-1-2 record in the last 33 games in which Kreider has recorded a point.

–        J.T. Miller recorded the game-winning goal, was credited with two hits, and posted a plus-two rating in the contest. Miller tallied a point in each of the Rangers’ two games against Arizona this season (one goal, one assist). In addition, six of Miller’s seven points in 2015-16 have either been a goal or the primary assist on a goal. Miller is the ninth Ranger who has tallied a game-winning goal this season, and he is tied for sixth on the team in points (seven) in 2015-16.

BANNER BLUESHIRT BREAKDOWN

–        Kevin Hayes tallied a power play goal and led all Rangers with five shots on goal in the contest. Hayes extended his point streak to three games (two goals, two assists) and he has registered a point in six of the last seven games, recording seven points (three goals, four assists) over the span. He has tallied 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) in 33 career games against Western Conference opponents. Hayes is tied for third on the team in goals (four) and points (10) this season.

–        Jesper Fast tallied the first goal of the game, was credited with one hit, and registered one blocked shot in 15:15 of ice time. Fast has recorded four points (two goals, two assists) in the last eight games, and all four of Fast’s points in 2015-16 have been against Pacific Division opponents.

–        Oscar Lindberg notched his first career NHL power play assist/point, was credited with five hits, and registered two shots on goal in 14:09 of ice time. Lindberg extended his point streak to three games (two goals, two assists) and he has tallied a point in five of the last six games, registering six points (three goals, three assists) over the span. Lindberg is tied for the team lead in points (11) this season, and he has recorded a point in nine of the team’s 14 games. New York has posted a 7-0-2 record when Lindberg has notched a point this season. In addition, he has posted a plus-minus rating of even or better in each of the team’s first 14 games in 2015-16.

–        Keith Yandle tallied a power play assist, recorded two shots on goal, and was credited with two hits in 18:03 of ice time. Tonight’s game was Yandle’s first contest on the road against his former team. Yandle registered a power play point in each of the Rangers’ two games against the Coyotes this season (one power play goal, one power play assist). Yandle leads the Rangers in assists (seven) and leads team defensemen in points (eight) thus far this season. He also leads NHL defensemen in power play assists (107) since the start of the 2009-10 season.

–        Derek Stepan registered an assist, recorded four shots on goal, and posted a plus-two rating in the contest. The Rangers alternate captain has recorded a point in each of the last two games (one goal, one assist) and has tallied a point in seven of 14 games in 2015-16.

–        Dan Girardi tallied an assist, was credited with four blocked shots, registered three hits, recorded three shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating while skating in a team-high 21:23 of ice time. The Rangers alternate captain has tallied three points (one goal, two assists) in the last five games, and he has registered two assists/points in the last three contests. Girardi has notched four points (one goal, three assists) in his last five games against the Coyotes, and he has recorded eight points (four goals, four assists) in 13 career games against Arizona. Girardi is tied for third among team defensemen in assists (three) in 2015-16.

–        Dan Boyle recorded an assist, was credited with two blocked shots, registered one hit, and posted a plus-two rating in 17:43 of ice time. Boyle has recorded two assists/points in four games against Pacific Division opponents in 2015-16, and he is tied for third among team defensemen in assists (three) this season.
